Peppers for 2023

We grow all different type of peppers from sweet, hot, purple, jalapeno, ancho, ornamental and more. So, if you want to grow fresh peppers for your garden, come visit our greenhouse. Peppers are also great to grow in pots, so if you have limited area, you can still grow a pepper in a confined space or deck. Just plant in a sunny and warm area.

Peppers

Anaheim Chili
  A mildly hot very flavorful pepper that is great for roasting, stuffing, or frying is Anaheim Chili. The peppers turn from green to red, and produce very large 5″-8″ chili peppers.

California Wonder
  The standard bell pepper for many decades, this 1928 introduction is still the largest open-pollinated, heirloom bell you can grow. A perfect stuffing pepper-blocky 4″ x 3 1/2″, thick-walled, tender and flavorful.

Cayenne Large Thick
  A very hot Cayenne type pepper that have medium thick walls. Cayenne are great for sauces or drying, if you like a nice hot pepper.

Dragon Cayenne
  Five times hotter than jalapeño, fire-breathing ‘Dragon’ adds flame and flavor to Mexican and Asian dishes.
Cooks Garden Favorite. Hot, hot, hot! Sizzling, pungent hybrid guarantees this is going to be one hot summer. Five times hotter than jalapeño, fire-breathing ‘Dragon’ adds flame and flavor to Mexican and Asian dishes. Cubanelle
  A sweet mild pepper that turns from yellow-green to red, Cubanelle is very popular in Spanish and Italian dishes. With it’s thin walls, frying and cooking is very quick and the flavor is appealing.

Encore
  One of the most widely adapted varieties, this newcomer will meet a huge range of cultural practices, field conditions and planting seasons! Extra-large 5-1/2 to 6″ blocky fruits are smooth with thick walls and are slow to turn to a deep dark red. Even under cool temperatures plants produce abundant yields of high quality peppers that consistently maintain their large size and shape. Plants grow up to 24″ and have excellent foliage cover to protect fruits against sunscald.

Early Summer
  Beautiful, golden-yellow fruits will impress even the pickiest pepper critics! Extra-large, 4 to 5 inch fruits mature from dark green to yellow on strong plants with a very impressive yield potential. High quality fruits are firm, smooth and glossy with thick walls and a uniformly blocky shape. Excellent disease resistance

Garden Salsa
  73 Days
A chile pepper developed specifically to capitalize on the growing popularity of Mexican salsas. Fruits are 8″ long by 1″ across, usually picked green for salsa (they mature red), and classed as medium-hot. Peppers 2,500 to 3,000 Scovilles, get hotter in dry weather.

Geronimo
  Here’s a Hungarian Wax Pepper like no other — brilliantly colored, prolific Geronimo Hybrid! This newcomer wows with neon-lime-green peppers on upright, very heavy-bearing plants. Discover a new favorite in garden and on plate — grow Geronimo this season!
The peppers mature from lime-green to cream, then to a blush-pink, and finally to a near-red shade of orange if you let them, but they can be harvested at any color. They appear on compact, well-branched plants just 16 to 24 inches high.

Ghost
  The hottest of hot peppers. These thin walled and wrinkled peppers are some of the hottest in the world. Ghost peppers are certified by the Guinness World Records to be 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce and are rated at more than 1 million Scoville Heat Units. Ghost pepper plants love heat and humidity and has a long growing season.

Giant Marconi
  A heavy producer of beautiful, long (8″) very sweet peppers with excellent flavor that only intensifies when allowed to mature to red. Giant Marconi are great grilled, roasted or fried and is one of our best sellers.

Goddess Sweet Banana
  Long, thick-walled, smooth fruits are borne on large plants. Avg. 8-9″ long, the fruits are mild when yellow and moderately sweet when they ripen red. Best for pickling due to their mild flavor, but also suitable for fresh market.

Gypsy
  If your looking for a sweet pepper to put in a salad or a great frying pepper, then look no further than Gypsy. Gypsy are thin skinned and have a very sweet taste.

Hungarian Wax
  A heirloom variety that has stood the test of time, Hungarian Hot Wax are a hot banana pepper. Hungarian Wax are medium to very hot, that start yellow and turn red. Great for pickling, canning or stuffing

Inferno
  A much improved version of a Hot Banana pepper that are 8″ long, with a hot heat, and medium-thick flesh. Inferno are not as hot as they sound, and are amazing producers of beautiful, large Hungarian hot wax type peppers.

Jalapeno Megatron
  Despite their generous size, deep green fruits mature extremely early & have mega flavor and disease resistance! An exciting, new jalapeno that boasts extra-large, 3 oz. dense fruits that average a whopping 4 1/2″ long! Smooth fruits are firm, mature to deep red and have a good shelf life.

Joe’s Pepper
  An extra large hot flavorful wax pepper brought over from Europe. A customer of Schweikert Greenhouse, named Joe, had a friend in the steel mill that brought the seeds for a very large hot banana pepper over from Europe in the 1950s. For 20+ years Joe would bring his pepper seeds, and we would start them and trade for plants. Joe’s pepper quickly became a popular pepper at our greenhouse. Joe passed away in April of 2004, but his son keep the tradition alive until his passing in September 2008. Joe’s granddaughter has assumed the torch and every year saves her grandfathers seeds, so we can start them again.

Keystone Giant
  If your looking for a big stuffing pepper, then Keystone Giant is your pepper. Keystone Giant has thick walls and 4.5″ peppers and a good producer.

Lady Bell
  A sweet bell pepper with medium thick walls that really produces. Lady Bell is a great bell pepper for stuffing and are approximately 4″ x 3.5″ that turn from green to red.

Medusa Pepper
  Narrow, twisted, snake-like peppers named for Medusa’s mythological hair! Compact, well-branched plants produce huge yields of 2 to 2 1/2″ pointed peppers held prominently upright over dark green foliage. Plants, 6 to 8″ typically display 40 to 50 mildly pungent fruits at the same time, covering a wide color spectrum ranging from ivory to yellow, orange and bright red.

Muscato
  Widely adaptable & specially bred for both fresh markets and processing! Attractive, deep orange, blocky, 5″ by 4″ bells are mostly 4-lobed, have very thick walls and are quite heavy. Strong, compact plants grow up to 24″ and initially produce up to 6 peppers – after that first fruit set, they will continue to produce until the first frost. Ideal stuffed, stir-fried, roasted or fresh.

Orange you sweet
  Orange You Sweet Pepper is a hybrid, sweet pepper variety that produces heavy yields of beautiful, bright orange fruits. This early-maturing variety produces compact, 18-24″ tall plants that are great for container and raised bed gardens. The fruits hang from the plants like ornaments on a Christmas tree.
Orange You Sweet Pepper produces loads of flattened, round fruits that are 3″ in diameter. Fruits have a sweet, almost citrusy flavor and thick, crunchy walls. This is a great variety for eating raw on salads or cooking. The flattened shape also makes them a great option for stuffing.

Pepperoncini greek golden
  The peppers are sweet and mild in flavor, not very hot, although they can vary and be found up to a medium heat level. You’ve most likely encountered a pickled pepperoncini in an Italian antipaso platter, Italian salad, or served up on a pizza or sub sandwich somewhere.

Poblano
  Poblano or Ancho chili when dried is a very popular hot pepper grown in Mexico. For maximum heat wait for green peppers to fully ripen to red before picking that 4″ heart shaped fruit.

Purple Beauty
  A really good looking, purple sweet bell pepper on compact and bushy plants. With a crispy texture and a sweet flavor and nice color, Purple Beauty is a fun pepper to grow.

Red Knight
  Get a jump on the season with a large, early, green-to-red pepper. Big, blocky, thick-walled bell pepper turns red early. Fruity and sweet.

Shishito
  Shishito are a great frying that has a rich flavor and are mild. The thin walls make a nice char when roasted or grilled and the plant is a heavy producer of peppers.

Super Chili
  A small plant with small 2.5″ very hot peppers make Super Chili’s a fun plant to grow. Easily grow in a pot on your porch or in the ground that Super Chili’s not only look great, but they taste great.

Sweet Banana
  A sweet banana shaped pepper that is a very prolific producer. Excellent for frying, picking, or pepper rings when you want that pepper taste without the heat.

Sweet Pickle Pepper
  Just 2 inches long and packed with sweet flavor, they’re super for salads, garnishes, and pickling
Days to Maturity: 65 from transplant. The perfect pickling pepper, Sweet Pickle looks as good as it tastes with colorful “Christmas tree light” fruits of yellow, orange, red, and even purple. Plant an extra bush or two in containers just for the eye candy. These peppers are about 2 inches long, tapering to a blunt end. Thick-walled and very sweet, they hold up beautifully on the plant, and keep their color, shape, and texture nicely when pickled. So appealing as they ripen into warm shades in the sunny garden.
