We have 3 new grasses this year along with an old favorite. Pennistetum Sky Rocket is a new annual variety of grass for Schweikert Greenhouse this year, consisting of beautiful green and white foliage with a beautiful pink bloom later in the year. Our other annual grass is a favorite that we have had many year, Purple Majesty Millet. Millet is a nice green color similar to corn stalks, that turns a beautiful purple color with full sun, and a nice cattail that birds will love. We have two new perennial grasses, Miscanthus Little Miss and Miscanthus Gold Breeze. Little Miss has a beautiful purple color and stays compact, while Gold Breeze has a nice yellow zebra stripe throughout and stays a manageable 5ft up to 7ft with plumes.
Features white and green variegated foliage with pink blooms in late summer. A great addition to full sun gardens and mixed planters alike. Height 24 to 36 inches | Purple Majesty makes a dramatic centerpiece in almost any planting. A beautiful and economical alternative to fountain grass, the shiny, corn-like leaves start out green and turn intense dark purple. In late summer, 12″ cattail-like flower spikes are dusted with gold. Height 48-60 in. | |
‘Little Miss’ grows in narrow arching clumps of foliage that emerge green in spring and develop carmine and purple tones beginning in May, reaching peak color in October and November. The center of the clump remains a fresh green for a lovely two-tone effect. Reddish flower heads sport buff seed heads from July to October. This tidy-growing smaller miscanthus is excellent for containers, borders, and modern landscape plantings. Height 2-3 ft | Gold Breeze has a considerable amount of gold banding, and an upright, arching habit that is excellent for small spaces and planters; burgundy plumes rise above foliage in fall; great winter interest. Gold Breeze is named for its glittering dance, enhancing the very air when lightly wind-tossed. Approximately 5ft |
